Recognized by world-renowned pianist Jörg Demus as a “pianist with promising talents and a natural depth in music,” Chinese pianist JU Xiaofu has built a colorful artistic career, performing in places including Vienna, Salzburg, Berlin, Verbier Fontainebleau, Aspen, Dublin, Bergen, Barbados, Singapore, New York, and Los Angeles, and major cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Hong Kong in China.
Xiaofu has performed at many esteemed venues such as the Wiener Musikverein, Salzburg Festspielhaus, Berliner Philharmoniker Kammermusiksaal, Château de Fontainebleau, Rose Theater at Lincoln Center, China National Centre for the Performing Arts, Shanghai Concert Hall, and Verbier Eglise. He was featured in the 2023–2024 season opening of the China Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as in the 2024–2025 season, debuting concerts titled “Less Is More” with the China NCPA Orchestra, and he embarked on different series of recital tours across China, receiving rave reviews. In May 2024, Xiaofu made his Carnegie Hall debut at Zankel Hall, presented by the Paulus Hook Music Foundation.
Since his orchestral debut at the age of 14 with the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, Xiaofu has worked with numerous orchestras, including Wiener Hofburg Orchestra, The Orchestra Now, Mahler Foundation Festival Orchestra, and Chinese orchestras including Beijing Symphony Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra of Shanghai Opera House, Guiyang Symphony Orchestra, Jiangsu Symphony Orchestra, Hohhot Philharmonic Orchestra, Xi’an Symphony Orchestra, and the Novus-Classica Camerata in Shanghai. He had the honor to work with great conductors, including Long Yu, LÜ Jia, CHEN Zuohuang, WANG Yongji, LIU Yunzhi, YUAN Ding, XIA Xiaotang, ZHU Man, LI Biao, ZHANG Liang, CHENG Ye, CHANG Chang, ZHAO Xiao’ou, CAI Jindong, JIN Yukuang, John Warner, and Christian Pollack. Additionally, Xiaofu established himself as a reliable performer, stepped in as a replacement within one week’s notice performing Mozart’s Piano Concerto K. 488 with the China National Opera House Symphony Orchestra in 2023.

Xiaofu has been actively performing to music festivals of prestige, including the Aspen Music Festival, Écoles d’Art Américaines de Fontainebleau, and China Now Music Festival. He was invited to participate in the Beijing Music Festival twice as a soloist. In Summer 2024, He was invited to the Verbier Festival’s soloist academy, where he was awarded the Tabor Piano Prize. In March 2025, Xiaofu released his debut album Waldeinsamkeit with NCPA Classics featuring works by Schumann, Liszt, Debussy, Bach (transcribed by Busoni), and Scriabin.
Being a passionate advocate of contemporary music, Xiaofu has had the privilege of premiering diverse modern works. He had the honor of giving the Chinese premiere of Philip Glass’s Piano Concerto No. 3 at the MISA Festival, the American premiere of Xiaogang Ye’s Symphony No. 2 The Great Wall at the China Now Music Festival, the Chinese premiere of Messiaen’s Oiseaux Exotique at the Beijing Music Festival, as well as the premiere of Elise Arancio’s Infinite Juke at the Écoles d’Art Américaines de Fontainebleau, for which he received the Ravel Prize for his outstanding interpretation.
A lover of all art forms, Xiaofu is also an avid poet, and published two collections of poems titled On the Path Seeking for the Ruins of Spring under Shanghai Literature & Art Publishing House in 2019, and The Late Sound under the Long River Press in 2024. In 2021, He premiered composer A Bu’s Three Sketches, which were based on three of his original poems.
Xiaofu graduated from the Music Middle School Affiliated to Shanghai Conservatory of Music, and is an alumnus of The Juilliard School, where he holds both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. He is currently pursuing a Soloklasse diploma at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover. His teachers include ZHOU Ting, Yoheved Kaplinsky, Nicolas Namoradze, and Arie Vardi. He was awarded the China–Austria Cultural Exchange Ambassador by the mayor of Salzburg, and has been appointed as the visiting artist of Capital College of The Arts, Management and Technology in Singapore.
